500 Visitors!

Our blog has passed 500 visitors! I promised we would have a 500 party and we did this afternoon. We had tons of fun making posters while listening to music. This was a ton of fun and the kids put so much effort into them. We are going to hang them up in the classroom so we can admire them until we reach 1000! Do you think we can do it? Enjoy our picture below.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today we had a special reader in class. It was my Dad! He came in to read and it was his birthday! He read Giggle, Giggle, Quack to the class and had birthday cupcakes with us. The cupcakes were perfect for him because they had basketball and a john deere hat on them! He even told us that we gave him the best birthday party ever. I think you all convinced him to come back to our classroom and be the "King of the Jungle". Wow! It was such an exciting day. He told me that he loved the card and was so excited to bring it home and show is wife. AKA Mrs. Skjerven's Mom!

Telling Time

We started our tellig time unit today. Our daily warm-up was a game called "Time to go Camping". To play the game you roll a twelve sided dice to determine the hour of your clock. Then cover the answer with a chip. The first camper to cover all the squares wins the game. I was so impressed with their knowledge about telling time to the hour. We focused really hard on time to the hour and half hour today. Next week we will start on quarter past and quarter til. See the students below playing the game!

Counting Money

We are currently working on counting money in math. We started out with pennies, nickels, and dimes. Then, added quarters and half dollars. Today we even counted dollars! I am so amazed at how well all of you are doing with counting money. Their favorite new game to play is called "Money Scoot". Each student gets a card with an amount of money written on it. They then show how much money the card says on their desk with play money. Once everyone is ready I yell out scoot and they have to go to a different desk and solve how much money is on the desk and record it on their money scoot sheet. It has been a lot of fun playing this game! Enjoy the pictures of the students playing many math games!

Snowmen at Night

We did a fun writing activity with the book called Snowmen at Night. We read the story and then brainstormed ideas on what snowman did at night. Then, we started our sloppy copy. Next, we revised and edited our work for our final project. Last, we made a snowman by tearing out paper. They turned out so cute! Great job second graders!

Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we read a story about Martin Luther King Jr. We learned about his dream of all people being treated equally. Then, we played a game on the smartboard where we answered questions about MLK. I was so impressed with everyone! Out of the 9 questions we got all 9 correct! This afternoon we are going to come up with our own dreams for the world. I am so excited to see all of these. Check back later to see our project!
