Compound Words and Presidents' Day Flip Book

This week we have been working on compound words. They are two small words that go together to make a new word. We did many activities on the smartboard and made a flip book of our own compound words. They turned out pretty cute. Check them out below!

Here is a song we listened to to help us learn compound words!

We discussed many of the U.S. Presidents in class this week. After we discussed and learned about them each student had to pick their favorite President. Then, we made flip flap books to share all about our favorite President. We had a lot of fun learning about the Presidents. Some examples are below...

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a very busy day filled with activities. We started our party by making valentines for our parents. They turned out so cute and I hope you all love them. They put a lot of hard work into it. Then, we did a valentine sentence scramble work sheet. After we corrected the sentences each student scanned the QR code next to the sentence to see if they did it correctly. There were a few mistakes we had to fix, but we learned a lot! Next, we watched an Arthur movie and had our treats. Last, we played heads down and thumbs up. All students have to put their heads down on their desk with their thumbs sticking up. There are three people who are at the front of the classroom. The three people up front go and pick one person and put their thumbs down. Once everyone has picked someone the three people they picked have to stand up and guess who picked them. If they guess correctly they switch spots. If they get it wrong they sit back down and try again. We had so much fun playing this game! I received so many valentines and I am so thankful! I may turn into chocolate after eating so much. Thanks again and I can't wait to see you all next Tuesday! (No school on Monday!

P.S. Hope you are enjoying your Valentine gift of no homework!

MAKING VALENTINES FOR OUR PARENTS

February Continued!

We made heart people for our Valentine's Day Bulletin Board. They turned out pretty cute!

The Lions Club came to our classroom to give each student a Magic Tree House Book. We were so excited. We have been reading them like crazy in our classroom. A huge thank you goes out the the Lions Club!

February is I LOVE TO READ month. We invited dads, grandpas, uncles, cousins, etc. to come into our classroom and read us a story. We were lucky to have Levi's grandpa and Saraya's dad read to us. Levi's grandpa read us a story about camping and Saraya's dad read us a story about a snow day. They were excellent readers and we really enjoyed having them in our classroom.

To celebrate the 100th day of school we Skyped with a second grade classroom from Canada. We counted to 100 by 2's, 5's, 10's and 25's forward and backwards with them. Then, we shared our 100th day projects with each other. We also took a lot of time to share our weather and what our community was like. They were really surprised that we only have 100 people in the town that we live in. They were from a town of 600,000 people. We did learn that we had similar weather and discussed that this was because we were all up north. After this discussion we all decided we should move south!

Our 100th day projects!

We did many 100th day challenges. These were challenges that could only be accomplished by students who work hard and have been through 100 days of second grade. The challenge below was to see if we could sit in every chair in the classroom in 100 seconds (1 minute 40 seconds)!
