Too Much Noise! Our AMAZING music program!

Viking Elementary put on an amazing musical last Friday. The story was about a family that was so tired of all the noise in their house. So each family member asked a wiseman what they should do to make their house quieter. Each wiseman told them to get an animal for the house. They ended up with a sheep, hen, dog, donkey, and a horse. The house was VERY noisy! The family wasn't very happy when their house was full of even more noise. So they went back to the wisemen and they told them to take out the animals. Then, of course they thought their house was pretty quiet! I am so impressed with how well the students did at the program. Enjoy the pictures below!

Google Earth Scavenger Hunt!

This week in social studies we have been talking about landmarks all over the world. After we were done discussing we did a Google earth scavenger hunt. They had eight landmarks they had to find on Google earth by solving clues. Here is an example of a clue... Get an eyeful of this tower in Paris, France. The students loved searching to find these places. When we the found all eight landmarks they got a badge to wear that makes them an official Google Earth Geo-Explorer!

Ian found the Statue of Liberty!
 Jennifer found Lincoln Memorial!
 Sherman found Thomas Jefferson Memorial!
Ian, Jennifer, and Jeri were the first three students to become Geo-Explorers! WAY TO GO!

Measurement!

Our class has been measuring like CRAZY this week! We started using non-standard units and went all around the classroom measuring items. We use cubes and pattern blocks that were about an inch and unit cubes that were about one centimeter. I have to tell you that this class is pretty impressive at measuring. After we really mastered the nonstandard units we went on to using standard units. We used the ruler to measure in inches and centimeters. First we measured items around our room and last we did an "I Spy" Sandcastles activity. The students had to find sandcastles around the room and first estimate how tall they were. Then they could measure to find out the actual measurement in inches.

The following pictures are of our class doing the "I Spy" Sandcastles activity!

Sequencing

This week we have been focusing on sequencing. We read a story about growing a vegetable garden. Then the students worked on putting the events of the story in order by using first, next, then, and last. We also read the story The Ugly Vegetables and worked together to make a sequence. We are really getting good at this skill. It was so fun to see all their hard work and energy during these activities!

Family Trees

We talked a lot about families and how to make a family tree. Then we decided it would be fun to make our own family trees. Their family trees turned out amazing!

Science Journals

We have been really working hard in our science journals lately. We did a unit on the sun, moon, and planets. I have posted some examples of the students work below. They sure do enjoy science and really get into adding information into their science journals.

We are ready for Spring!

We added a rain hat and water boots to our classroom monkeys. They are ready for April now!
We welcomed spring by making pointillism eggs and butterflies. Even if we don't see a whole of of spring outsie we are bringing it to our classroom!
Our class has the bulletin board in the school entrance this month. We read a book about Claude Monet and it talked about his life and his form of art called Impressionism. We fell in love with his water lilies paintings! We used water colors to paint our lilies and WOW did they ever turn out neat!
