Queen of the Jungle, Bus Safety, and Scoot!

We have had a very busy week and it is only Tuesday! Saraya is our QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE! She shared all about herself on Monday. We got to see a picture of her as a baby and she sure was a cutie!

We also got to go on the school bus to review all the rules on the school bus. Mr. Lund and Mike talked to us about being safe. Remember our number one rule is to "Listen to the Bus Driver". Then we learned how to exit the back of the bus if there was an emergency. We remembered to walk and to wait for an adult to help us off the bus.

In math we were learning how to order numbers. We did some activities on the smartboard, our math worksheet and then we played a game called "Scoot". There were cards placed around the classroom with a number line missing a number. Each student started at a card with their number recording paper. They had to find the missing number and write it in the correct box. When I said the word "scoot", they moved to the next card. We are getting a lot better at ordering numbers!

Book Nooks and Bucket Filler Project!

We have really been working hard on reading to self this week and building up our STAMINA. I was very impressed with our effort this week. On Monday, we only did two minutes long. Today, we finished at ten minutes. I WAS SO PROUD! Check out our book nook spots for this week. We rotate weekly!

Our art and journaling project this week was all about being a bucket filler. To find out more about what being a bucket filler is watch the video on this link...
Their finished work turned out amazing! Hope you enjoy them!

"BECAUSE I CAN"

Today was a pretty special day! Each student received a bag full of supplies from the "Because I Can" program.

Here is the note that was inside each bag explaining what this program is...

This is an informal network of people doing and giving for others in the form of a hand sewn backpack filled with various school items. All the items were donated by individuals who support the "Because I Can" slogan. The motto was chosen to honor a man who believed that one could give and do in life as he believed in the words, "because I can". Ryan Bjerklie died on February 19, 2009, at the age of 34 years. He was from Trail, Minnesota. As his family and friends, we carry on his words and do this project every year and donate the items to kids! We welcome and would love any support that you can give us! Thank you!

Renae Marquis & Cheryl Bjerklie

The family that donated these bags to our classroom are near and dear to me. I am life long friends with Ryan's cousin Emily. She was the one that helped our classroom get these wonderful bags. I can't thank them enough for all the hard work they have put into these bags! We put all of our supplies (pencils, folder, notebook, construction paper, ruler, crayons, etc.) into our desks and will be using the bags as book bags. They work PERFECT for our book nooks!!! THANKS AGAIN!

Literacy Centers and KING OF THE JUNGLE!

We ended last week by doing literacy centers around the room. These stations included... "School-Time Sentences" where students use picture cards to generate sentences, "A Colorful Order" where   students put color words in ABC Order, Making Words where students use letter cards to make new words, "Syllable Sort" where students sort picture/word cards into different syllable groups, "Rhyme-Time" where students use picture/word cards to make new rhymes, and "Writing Center" where  students wrote about their teacher. I was very impressed with how well they worked together! They seemed to really enjoy these centers and were really engaged!

First Day of School!

WOW! I can't believe our school year has started. Today was such a fun day! I got to meet all of my wonderful second grade students. This year is going to be so much fun with these sweet little kids. We had the best first day and as I am sitting writing this I am getting even more excited for tomorrow. Our day was very busy learning all of our new routines, our schedule, and our new classroom. We are working really hard to make our classroom a friendly zone where we have a great atmosphere to learn. Tomorrow we will be working on STAMINA when we read. I am so excited to see how many minutes we can read without interruptions.

Enjoy our first day of 2nd grade pictures below!

Each student received their "JUNGLE GEMS" today! These are positive behavior necklaces that students can earn charms. Each time they reach 5 AR points they get to add a bead to their chain. I also have many secret gems that the students can earn. I can't wait to start giving these out!
