BLUE DAYS!!!

Our class has a "How is your day?" chart to monitor our classroom behavior. Everyone starts at green at the beginning of each day. If one of our classroom rules is broken they would change to yellow. If it happens again they would change to red. For a yellow day they miss 5 minutes of an activity and for a yellow they miss 10 minutes of an activity and a call home. If they have an outstanding day and they go above and beyond what they are expected they get a blue day. We added a fun new reward system for getting a blue day. They get to go into my bag of reward coupons and pick out a reward to use on a day of their choice. There many fun and silly rewards to earn! Emma had a blue day on Tuesday and Rylie and Ethan earned blue days on Friday. See what they chose for their rewards below!

Emma chose to have iPad for the day!
Riley chose PJ day! She got to wear her PJ's to school!
Ethan chose to have a lunch date with a friend!

Reading to Kindergarten!

We were pretty lucky today! Mrs. Franco's Kindergarten class came to our classroom so we could read to them. Each student paired up with a kindergarten student and chose a book to read out loud to them. I heard some excellent reading and we sure had a fun time with this. We hope to continue to do this every Friday!

Happy Birthday Rylie!

Math Games!

We finished chapter 1 in our math books. They all worked so hard and did such a great job on our test that I decided it was time to teach them some of our math games. After our paper is corrected during math, each student gets paired up and can choose a math game to play. We tried it for the first time yesterday and it went spectacular!

Here all all the games we introduced!

Playing Chop!

Playing Odds & Evens!

Playing Speed!

Playing Two Digit Big Man!

Playing Addition Battle!

Playing Top It!

Update from last week!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I spent mine doing a lot of relaxing because my daughter and I caught a horrible cold. But...we sure did enjoy cuddling and watching movies all weekend. I am finally feeling better so here I am posting about last week!

We did a fun morning greeting where we put one of our shoes into the middle of our circle. Then, the leader started by picking a shoe and greeting the owner of that shoe. Then the owner of the shoe got to pick another shoe and so on. We had a lot of fun with this activity!

Saying "Second Grade Rocks!"

We started our science journals this week. I attended a workshop last year that was put on by the Jeffer's Foundation and I received free science journals for our class! Our focus last week was on plants. We did an activity around the room where we would stamp out different parts of plants and then label them. They turned out MAGNIFICENT! We sure do love using these wonderful science journals!

The entire class worked so hard in math on Friday that they were rewarded by playing Addition Bingo. This was such a great way to practice our addition facts. I hope all of you are practicing these at home!

Ethan won Bingo twice!
Last, but not least we had two students who were honored in our class for completing their reading journals over the summer. They both read over 600 minutes this summer. That is pretty impressive! For their hard work and dedication to reading they each received a book light. Way to go Kaydence and Rylie! Keep up the hard work!

Queen of the Jungle, Bus Safety, and Scoot!

We have had a very busy week and it is only Tuesday! Saraya is our QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE! She shared all about herself on Monday. We got to see a picture of her as a baby and she sure was a cutie!

We also got to go on the school bus to review all the rules on the school bus. Mr. Lund and Mike talked to us about being safe. Remember our number one rule is to "Listen to the Bus Driver". Then we learned how to exit the back of the bus if there was an emergency. We remembered to walk and to wait for an adult to help us off the bus.

In math we were learning how to order numbers. We did some activities on the smartboard, our math worksheet and then we played a game called "Scoot". There were cards placed around the classroom with a number line missing a number. Each student started at a card with their number recording paper. They had to find the missing number and write it in the correct box. When I said the word "scoot", they moved to the next card. We are getting a lot better at ordering numbers!

Book Nooks and Bucket Filler Project!

We have really been working hard on reading to self this week and building up our STAMINA. I was very impressed with our effort this week. On Monday, we only did two minutes long. Today, we finished at ten minutes. I WAS SO PROUD! Check out our book nook spots for this week. We rotate weekly!

Our art and journaling project this week was all about being a bucket filler. To find out more about what being a bucket filler is watch the video on this link...
Their finished work turned out amazing! Hope you enjoy them!
